Permanent Magnet Holding Electromagnets

These holding electromagnets hold objects even without voltage applied. A permanent magnet inside ensures permanent holding. Electric current is only needed briefly for disconnection. This makes them suitable for energy saving or for safety applications in case of power failure. 24 V DC power supply, IP65 protection, various dimensions, holding force 10–1900 N.

Permanent Magnet Holding Electromagnets – Principle and Use

Holding electromagnets with a permanent magnet hold metal parts without electrical voltage applied. They are equipped with a strong permanent magnet that acts in the default state. By connecting a 24 V DC voltage, an opposing magnetic field is created, which cancels the effect of the permanent magnet. This releases the held object.

This allows you to use these electromagnets where it is necessary to hold a component without continuous power. Power is only used when disconnection is required.

Caution, these electromagnets of this type must not be powered continuously – prolonged connection leads to overheating and loss of magnetic force.

Typical use of permanent magnet holding electromagnets

These electromagnets are primarily used in industry, automation, and technical development.

You can use them, for example, for:

  • manipulators and robotic arms,
  • locking systems and door securing,
  • emergency closures in case of power failure,
  • technical and development devices where holding without power is needed,
  • utilization with an emphasis on low energy consumption.

Properties of permanent magnet holding electromagnets

  • Supply voltage: 24 V DC ± 10%.
  • Relative duty cycle: 10%.
  • Electromagnet enclosure: IP65.
  • Terminal enclosure: IP00 (free terminals).
  • Insulation class: B.
  • Connection wires are color-coded.
  • Holding force: from 45 to 1900 N, depending on type (measured at 20 °C, pulling perpendicularly to a smooth steel surface 15 mm thick).

Select a permanent magnet holding magnet according to the type of application and the required load.
