Product description

Zinc (Zn) is a soft, easily fusible metal used since ancient times. At temperatures of 100–150 °C, it is ductile and malleable, but brittle at normal temperatures.

  • Czech Zinc, Latin Zinc, English Zinc

Zinc has a melting point of 419.53 °C, is stable in normal environments, and oxidizes easily in air. The oxidized layer prevents further oxidation and corrosion.

Since ancient times, around 1400 BC, zinc was used in Egypt in the form of an alloy with copper to produce brass. They melted copper with a zinc ore called calamine by the Greeks. During the Ming Dynasty, between the 14th and 17th centuries, China cast zinc coins.

Zinc-carbon battery cells are still part of old types of batteries today. Zinc balancing weights for car and motorcycle wheels serve as a replacement for older lead weights. Jewellers also use zinc for the production of jewellery and the creation of alloys with precious metals.

This metal is corrosion-resistant, used for the anti-corrosion protection of iron, steel, and other alloys. By casting zinc with the addition of titanium, titanised zinc is created, which is used by roofers and sheet metal workers, for example.

The anti-corrosion properties of zinc are used for the production of paints and coatings for machines or for the protection of bridge structures. Protective zinc sulfide (ZnS) is also known by the designation zinc blende.

Zinc compounds exist in many forms and for many uses in various areas of technology and industry.

Zinc is a diamagnetic metal, it slightly weakens external magnetic fields and is weakly repelled by magnets.

The technical zinc we supply has the structure of a fine powder, 99% purity.

Try our 99.5% zinc powder for your applications too.
