Product description

Samarium (Sm) is a soft, silvery-white, transition metal element that occurs in nature along with other lanthanoids. The melting point of samarium is 1072 °C, the boiling point is 1794 °C, and its Latin and English name is the same – Samarium.

Samarium for sale: we supply packaging with a purity of 99.9% in multiples of 1 g.

Samarium is used to produce heat-resistant permanent SmCo magnets that can withstand temperatures up to 300 degrees Celsius. Samarium-cobalt magnets are durable and magnetically strong, allowing their use in demanding industrial applications. Samarium itself is paramagnetic, being slightly attracted to magnets.

The element's name originates from the mineral samarskite. It was discovered in Russia and named after the Russian mining specialist and Colonel Samarsky.

In nature, samarium occurs in minerals, the most well-known being monazite, bastnäsite, and xenotime. Large deposits of ore are found in Scandinavia, the USA, China, and Vietnam.

Samarium is also used in medicine as a contrast agent in some imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging.

Interestingly, samarium is also used in nuclear energy for neutron absorption. Some samarium radioisotopes can be used as fuel in nuclear reactors or as a neutron source in various industrial applications.

The metal samarium was discovered in 1879 and is among the relatively rare elements in the Earth's crust. Due to its magnetic properties and industrial applications, it is becoming an increasingly important element for modern technologies.
