Bismuth 99.9%, 1 g
Bismuth (Bi) is a metallic element with a gray color and a faint pink luster, Latin Bisemutum. It has a low melting point, only 271.5 °C. It is diamagnetic, suitable for magnetic experiments, also used in alloys, in medicine, or in the preparation of glazes for ceramics. We supply in 99.9% purity.
Bismuth (Bi) is a metallic element with a grey colour and a faint pink lustre, located at position 83 in the periodic table.
Bismuth for sale: we supply packaging with 99.9% purity in multiples of 1 g or 1000 g.
The Latin name comes from the word Bisemutum. In English, bismuth is called Bismuth.
Bismuth has a low melting point, only 271.5 °C – the lowest among metals. Bismuth and its compounds are non-toxic; it is relatively soft. Despite its low melting point, bismuth is used in low-temperature applications such as thermoelectric generators, which utilize the phenomenon known as the thermoelectric effect. It is also suitable for experiments and magnetic demonstrations.
Bismuth has important uses as an additive in various alloys. Some of these alloys have an exceptionally low melting point, even below 100 °C. This phenomenon is used in the production of automatic fire suppression systems, known as sprinklers. They are used especially in taller buildings. Sprinklers automatically spray water as soon as a fire starts in the vicinity or the temperature suddenly increases significantly.
Bismuth is not magnetic, meaning it does not exhibit any magnetic properties. However, it is diamagnetic, like gallium, and is repelled by magnets.
It is found in nature in the form of several minerals, and is also part of some ores of copper, lead, tin, silver, and gold. The world's largest reserves of bismuth are in China, Bolivia, Peru, and Mexico.
Ceramists in glaze preparation and optical fiber manufacturers use bismuth as a lead substitute.
In medicine, bismuth is used in some medications for the treatment of stomach and intestinal diseases or is part of disinfectants.
